Favorite Father Figures from the Big Screen

It's about that time of year again where we take a moment and say "thanks" to our Dads (and Granddads!).  After a lifetime of 'atta-boy's and go-get-'em-champs and maybe a few rub-some-dirt-on-it's, we take some time to give some respect to the old man.  Here at Old People Outdoors we can't think of a better way than remembering some of our favorite dad & granddads from TV & Movies - roll the tape!

Old People Outdoors - Best Father Figures on Big Screen - Mrs. Doubtfire

Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire

Look, the movie is about how terrible of a dad Robin Williams is, but he loves his kids.  Not only that, but the movie is downright hilarious.  Plus, who doesn't love a good James Bond era Pierce Brosnan as the up-and-coming suave rival new dad?  I couldn't narrow it down to one clip, so you get two - I'm sure you're not mad.

Could you make me a woman?

Old People Outdoors - Best Father Figures on Big Screen - National Lampoons

Chevy Chase (Clark Griswald) in ALL the Vacation movies

Whether you love him or love to hate him, Clark is a great dad character - if nothing else he shows you just how amazing your real-life dad actually is!

Personally, I love the European Vacation scene where Clark gets pulled on stage for a German dance routine and ends up starting an all-out brawl at the beer hall.  If you don't remember, don't worry - here it is

Old People Outdoors - Best Father Figures on Big Screen - Grumpy Old Men

John Gustafson (Jack Lemmon) and Max Goldman (Walter Matthau) in Grumpy Old Men

Couldn't leave this one off the list!  The two feuding neighbors (both older, and a little outdoorsy, might I add) show that even the most crotchety old farts have hearts too.  If you haven't seen this one in a while, you're welcome for the reminder.

Old People Outdoors - Best Father Figures on Big Screen - Walter White

Walter White in Breaking Bad

This one is a little different than the others but is one of the best TV dad's ever.  In the actual show he's both the best AND the worst dad - I won't spoil the show for you (although you really should've seen it by now) but suffice it to say that Walter's relationship with his family is ... complicated.  This clip should give you a taste.
